Clinical Experience
From 2015 until 2020 I held a collaboration with the 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Athens University School of Medicine, Aretaieion Hospital, where I provided supportive psychotherapeutic counseling services addressed to: a) pregnant women and new mothers dealing with the psychological strain of the perinatal period b) oncological patients needing support in adhering to medical treatment and recovery c) couples undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
From 2013 to 2017 I worked as a clinical psychologist at the Psychosomatic & Liaison Psychiatry Outpatient Unit of the 1st Department of Psychiatry, Eginition Hospital, Athens Medical School, NKUA. I gained valuable clinical experience in cases of patients exhibiting psychosomatic concerns and conditions, namely emotional and behavioural disturbance due to pain or other bodily discomfort, a maladaptive reaction to a somatic symptom, either on the basis of or concomitant to a pre-existing physical illness (autoimmune diseases, rheumatological diseases, cancer, post-surgical complications), or of a non-medically diagnosable etiology, indicative of the DSM-5 categorization of somatoform disorders (somatic symptom disorder, illness anxiety disorder, conversion disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and factitious disorder).
At 2017, a collaboration between the Psychosomatic &; Liaison Psychiatry Outpatient Unit of Eginition Hospital & the Specialized Rheumatological Clinic of the 2nd Department of Medicine, Hippokration General Hospital, NKUA, resulted in the development of Group Psychotherapeutic Interventions, where I was the leading psychologist in one out of the two running psychotherapeutic groups, supervised by both the aforementioned clinics, as part of the evidence-based non-pharmacological treatment modalities prescribed additionally to drug treatment in patients with rheumatological chronic conditions and especially rheumatoid arthritis.
I have also voluntarily worked as a counselling psychologist at Médecins du Monde, Délégation Hellenique, offering psychosocial services and interventions to vulnerable populations in need (2012-2014).
